  Southern Food

  just got back from atlanta yesterday, boy oh boy did i have an eatin good time!

  grits, collard greens....biscuits and gravy... fried chicken...peach cobbler... sweet tea.

  I've been there a few times and had a couple of meals there. The food wasn't too bad.
  They used to brag that most of the food they served was grown on the Watchtower Farm upstate.
  
  One meal they served while I was visiting one time was fish. I asked the table head if they caught the fish at the farm.....I just got a dirty look....

  What did YOU do during the downtime?

  so, if i'm not much mistaken jwd was just down for over 24 hours - the longest time i can remember in over four years of posting here.

  these things happen - c'est la vie.. so what did you do during this time?

  did you suffer the dts?

  I went shopping with the wife, (or should I say, the wife went shopping with me).
  
  Actually, I reaquainted myself with Flight Simulator and Train Simulator. I haven't used these programs in quite a while, so it was fun to explore these programs again.

  What was the first thing Adam said when he set eyes on Eve?

  according to the bible he decided to name her "woman".

  in the previous verses he had been on an exercise to name all the beasts of the field and birds of the air.. personally, if i'd been wandering around a paradise garden on my own for years naming animals and suddenly set eyes on a perfect naked woman, i think i would be inclined to invent the first swear word.. although later, when eve gave birth, adam said it had been "with the lord's help".

  so maybe he wasn't quite as spontaneous as i'd imagined, or maybe adam thought god was serious when he said she was a "helper".

  the reason i ask is this, a 'nice' couple across the road are born again christian fundamentalists.

  their little boy was playing with a sword and his mum told me he had been watching 'narnia' (based on the lion the witch and the wardrobe).

  If the New Testament included only the Gospels.....

  .... what would christianity be like today had the rest of the nt been rejected or turned into apocrypha?

  was christ's teaching enough to give momentum to this religion beyond the first christians?

  or did christ's teaching need augmenting with pauline doctrines?

  I've often thought the same thing. I do think Christianity would be very different than it is today if it was just the Gospels.
  
  There would be no (just to name a few) Disfellowshipping (shunning), faith healing, speaking in tounges, celebate priests, women treated as second class citizens in the church, and the list goes on and on...
  
  I do believe there would be more genuine love and forgiveness than there is in todays churches.

  Whats the price of gas where you live?

  i just noticed that minimus has a similar thread....i guess he knew that i was going to start this thread, so he started it a few days before me........... .

  gas was $1.13 a litre last night and this morning its up uto $1.22 a litre.

  so it's as if gas went up from $4.27 to $4.61 a gallon overnight.

  In the Baltimore area, it's about $2.89 for regular and $3.09 for premium.
  
  But then again, that was yesterday....
